The only downside would be in rendered preview files, since those need to stay on the local storage location.

Considering I had zero help in doing this and it was just a tad unnecessary (I could've done my comps from home by working at home on those days), I think she'll be fine by only giving her cloud access to ample amounts of storage and a duplicate set of software on each PC to do the work (Office/Adobe/whatever). I was able to edit videos (without benefit of sound unfortunately) and do work in After Effects remotely and then go home to do touch up work on my designs when I had lag issues. It's totally doable without any extraneous software. I literally never logged into the work MBP from home (they refused to help me on VPN access.), but I could remotely VNC into my home iMac whenever I wanted to grab files to put into Dropbox. I had a similar work setup (but lacked an IT admin that wanted to deal with a Mac) and I was productive by using Dropbox to sync any media files created in Adobe and I used a mix of Google Drive and Office 365 for office document work. If she's not taking her system home (iMac/Mac Pro).

To the best of my knowledge these commands and information are correct since I'm writing this from memory as I cannot access my actual notes right now.Are there Mac specific software needs she has? I'd question about putting her onto something like Office 365 and the cloud for her document storage. Once you are finished close the VNC window and use Control + C in the Terminal to quit the SSH session. Of course this assumes you can access the computer directly by its IP address or DNS name. If you are using another Mac to connect to the 'shared' Mac (aka 'remote server'), then you just click on the 'Go' menu in the Finder and select 'Connect to Server' and enter the following address: vnc://localhost:5900 The built in screen sharing, vnc server, is set to the default port of 5900. Then to access the 'shared' machine (aka 'remote server') you need to first establish an SSH encrypted tunnel from the client computer like this on macOS/Linux command line (I'm not sure what the Windows equivalent is): ssh -C -N -L 5901:localhost:5900 is an account on the remote system with SSH privileges and '' is the IP address or DNS name of the system you want to access. Is there any way to change the default vnc server port on a Mac.

(Mac clients can use a proprietary protocol extension to bypass this. When a non-Mac VNC client connects, it is presented with a login screen. This Mac will now be referred to as the 'shared' machine or 'remote server'. Mac screen sharing with magnification OS X has included VNC 'screen sharing' since 10.4, but 10.7 introduced a feature that can make it hard for non-Mac VNC clients if your desktop size is not 1280x1024.
